  • Terrebonne Parish Shrimpers trawl the inland waters in the recently opened area along Robinson Canal and Lake Boudreaux as the high tide goes out. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill closed the inland waters for much of the brown shrimp season and area shrimpers took advantage of the recent opening to shrimp the last few days of the season.

The old Fairfield Inn, built in 1896, once sat upon a grassy knoll, overlooking this lake. Today, it is a part of the Sapphire Valley resort.

Low water levels from the severe drought across the U.S. makes shipping increasingly difficult on the Mississippi River. The river is currently at 4.9 ft. in Baton Rouge. Flood stage is 35 feet and the record high is 47.28 feet.
