Germantown Colony State Museum Countess Cottage. The Colony was established in 1835 seven miles northeast of Minden, La. It is the third and most successful site of the Harmonist Society of the early 19th century. The colony operated on a communal basis and lasted 37 years before dispersing in 1871.
