Beside the Mississippi River levee off Pointe Coupee Road is St. Francis Chapel. It is a mission church joined to St. Mary of False River in New Roads, La. Dedicated in May 1895 the wooden Gothic building is the third St. Francis Catholic Church of Pointe Coupee. The first was built in 1738 and was the first permanent church in the region. The second church was built next to the Fort of Pointe Coupee and was dedicated on the Feast of St. Francis in 1760. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a place of worship as Mass is celebrated 7 am each Sunday.
