The Bancker Grotto, set in a quiet 4-acred park in Vermilion Parish, was built in 1935 by Father DeVos to honor Our Lady of Lourdes. Bancker was once a thriving community settled by Acadians, as well as families of Spanish, German and Danish descent. William Code donated the property along the Vermilion River in 1895 for the first Roman Catholic Church. The grotto was built on the site where a Catholic Church once stood.
