In 1953, a 2 1/2 mile road connecting Isle de Jean Charles to Pointe-aux-Chene was built through the south Louisiana marshland. Over the years, the marshland has turned into open water leaving the Isle de Jean Charles community cut-off from the rest of Terrebonne Parish.
