Located on the Mississippi River Road south of Baton Rouge, La. St. Gabriel Catholic Church is shrouded in an early morning fog. Built by Acadians exiled from Nova Scotia the church is the oldest surviving church structure in the Mississippi Valley. It is built in the 18th century French Colonial style and the steeple was a gift from the Queen of Spain in 1770.
