Foot bridges cross Bayou St. Jean Charles to raised homes in Isle de Jean Charles, a small island community in south Terrebonne Parish. The island is facing coastal land loss and is nearing a time when it will be unable to sustain the island residents. In January the Isle de Jean Charles Biloxi, Chitimacha and Choctaw tribe received a $48 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to resettle the community further inland.
