The chapel at Nombre de Dios Mission in St. Augustine, Fl. was erected in 1615 to house the shrine of Our Lady of La Leche. The mission is called America’s most sacred acre as the first Mass of the new colony was celebrated here. The chapel fell to war, pirates and storm. The last reconstruction began in 1918. The devotion to Our Lady of La Leche honors the divine motherhood of Mary and was brought to Nombre de Dios from Spain in 1603.
