Sacred Heart School students crown Mary with a wreath of flowers during May Crowning ceremony Monday, May 8, 2023 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baton Rouge La. A May crowning is a Roman Catholic ritual held in the month of May as Mary is honored as the Queen of Heaven and the Mother of God. May is considered the end of winter and the start of a new season of growth. It’s a time for new beginnings and the chance to begin with anew a life of gratitude and devotion.
