St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Pastor Al Davidson blesses boats following Mass on Virgin Island in Pierre Part, La. The Church commemorated the 100th anniversary of our Lady of Fatima’s first appearance. Beginning with a procession from the church to Virgin Island, parishioners honored Mary with a May Crowning and Mass. Virgin Island is a small island across the bayou from the church dedicated to the Blessed Mother. The parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker have a strong devotion to Mary and believe the Blessed Mother has intervened over the years to save lives in many natural disasters. Each year, weather permitting, Mass is held on the island on the second Saturday of May and second Saturday of October.
