Sunday night at the LSU lakes in Baton Rouge brings a supermoon, which is when the full moon coincides with the moon's closest approach to the Earth during its elliptical orbit around us. The technical name is the perigee-syzygy of the Earth-Moon-Sun system. According to NASA, a full moon at perigee is up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than one at its farthest point, or apogee.
