  • William Fletcher tills his fields to break-up the soil to create a smooth and firm row to plant strawberries. Originally completed just before Labor Day Fletcher is working to reshape and restore his strawberry fields two months after the flood of 2016 rushed through his land. Fletcher’s farm is located west of the Tangipahoa River and the river’s rising water cut across his fields taking away nearly 1-foot of topsoil. With the loss of his fall season crops Fletcher is getting by with assistance from BREADA’s Small Farmer Survival Fund. The Baton Rouge Area Foundation’s Flood Relief Fund granted $30,000 to BREADA to assist small farmers like Fletcher.
