  • Marva Coleman, ordained minister, retiree and now master gardener, is transforming a recently acquired lot at 460 E. McKinley St. into a place where plants and flowers grow. The garden will be christened early next year and will be named in honor of Coleman's late daughter, Aveia Anderson, who was murdered in 2009.

The island is facing coastal land loss and is nearing a time when it will be unable to sustain the island residents. In January the Isle de Jean Charles Biloxi, Chitimacha and Choctaw tribe received a $48 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to resettle the community further inland.

  • Black Bayou Lake near Hosston, La. is covered with moss-draped cypress trees and covers approximately 4,000 acres. An original raft lake, it is sustained by a spillover dam that runs parallel to Louisiana Highway. The Boom or Bust Byway follows Highway 2 and is defined by the Louisiana/Texas border on the west and the loop around the town of Homer to the east. The Byway is comprised of four parishes: Caddo, Bossier, Webster and Claiborne.

The new 20-acre school campus was dedicated in March of 2010.  Holy Cross School enjoys a distinction of being the second oldest sustained foundation worldwide in the Congregation of Holy Cross, second only to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, founded in 1842.
